How to Live a Long, Happy, More Fulfilling Life Through Crafts and Hobbies

Hobbies are a great form of entertainment, that can provide many health benefits as well as overall fulfillment in life. Some popular hobbies include: performing arts, sports, gardening, collecting, cooking, travel, and my personal favorites... scrapbooking and other various crafts.

There isn't really any requirement for hobbies, but rather something you enjoy doing in your spare time. That's what is most important! In this article, we'll go over different facts about hobbies, some of their benefits and even some ideas for new hobbies to enjoy.

My daughter's hobbies are shopping, softball, cheerleading, dancing and gymnastics. Her hobbies are talking, shopping, texting and spending quality time with her family and friends. My husband's favorite hobbies are golfing, fishing, and also family activities. Like crafts, hobbies can be fun activities that give you a break from the stress of daily life. Now there are some kinds of hobbies that do require a little investment, but might pay off in the long run, like my favorite hobby- crafts and scrapbooking.

Hobbies can be animal related, or people related. Anything you enjoy doing that involves animals is valuable in a multitude of ways. For example children may learn responsibility, and respect for nature and living things. Some of the most expensive hobbies can be collecting Some hobbies we all wish our kids had are writing, singing, and reading. But these are all too often replaced by the television and video games.

In the past, you could argue that not all hobbies can be money making hobbies. There are many hobbies that make you money. Some hobbies can be very expensive and might not earn you anything. However, other hobbies can actually earn you money! For example selling old stuff on eBay, or collecting coupons. Some outdoor hobbies include: snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking, rock climbing and camping, and grilling on the barbeque. Fun hobbies for the more adventurous are: Scuba diving, sail racing and even Politics.

Some hobbies are more affordable than others, but they should all be a part of a well balanced life. They are instrumental in bringing energy back in an individual's life. Hobbies are practiced for interest and enjoyment, rather than as paid work. Be aware, however that while hobbies are a good thing for the most part, anything in excess can be damaging. Like that show on the discovery channel- Hoarders. They turned the hobby of collecting things to the extreme and literally collect every little thing they get their hands on!

Some people have even turned their hobbies into businesses. What better business to go into that something you'd do for free! Researchers find that retired people who get involved in hobbies are happier and tend to live longer. Ever wonder why job applications sometimes ask you to list your hobbies? Hobbies tend to tell a lot about who a person really is. They do this because some people believe that we are defined by what we do in our spare time. If we literally spend every spare moment we have in front of the television then our mind will be very narrow and limited. While other hobbies like reading, and writing actually expand our mind and intellect.

Remember, that those who have hobbies are more fulfilled and lead happier lives. So find a few hobbies you're interested in and give them a try!
